Good to know about QLD school holidays

  • Queensland state schools follow a single statewide calendar.
  • Year 12 students usually finish earlier in Term 4 than other year levels.
  • Queensland does not observe daylight saving, so countdowns use Brisbane time all year.
  • Public holidays that fall during term (such as Anzac Day or a King's Birthday holiday) are days off school but are not counted as school holidays.

QLD school holidays: common questions

Do Catholic and independent schools in QLD have the same holidays?

Not always. The dates on this page are for Queensland government schools. Many Catholic and independent schools follow similar dates but can start or finish a few days earlier or later, so check your school's own calendar.

What are student-free or staff development days?

These are days when teachers work but students stay home, often at the start of a term. They are set statewide or by individual schools. Where the Queensland Department of Education publishes them, we list them in the notes under each calendar.

How do I add QLD school holidays to my phone calendar?

Use the “Add to my calendar” button under a year's table. It downloads a standard .ics file that works with Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook.

How do you make sure the dates are right?

Every date is checked by a person against the official Queensland Department of Education page before it appears here, and we show the source and the date it was last checked. Read how we check dates.
