TAS school holidays: common questions

Do Catholic and independent schools in TAS have the same holidays?

Not always. The dates on this page are for Tasmania government schools. Many Catholic and independent schools follow similar dates but can start or finish a few days earlier or later, so check your school's own calendar.

What are student-free or staff development days?

These are days when teachers work but students stay home, often at the start of a term. They are set statewide or by individual schools. Where the Tasmanian Department for Education, Children and Young People publishes them, we list them in the notes under each calendar.

How do I add TAS school holidays to my phone calendar?

Use the “Add to my calendar” button under a year's table. It downloads a standard .ics file that works with Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook.

How do you make sure the dates are right?

Every date is checked by a person against the official Tasmanian Department for Education, Children and Young People page before it appears here, and we show the source and the date it was last checked. Read how we check dates.
