What children will learn
- Build a daily reading habit
- Try different types of texts
- Talk about books and share opinions
You'll need
- This page printed
- Books from home or the local library
- A pencil or stickers
How to do it
- Print the bingo card below and stick it on the fridge.
- Each time your child completes a challenge, they colour or sticker that square.
- Aim for a line first, then try for a full card by the end of the holidays.
- Ask one question after each reading session: ‘What was the best part?’ or ‘What do you think happens next?’
Make it easier
Count being read to, or reading picture books together, as completed squares.
Make it harder
Add a rule that each square must be a different book, or write a one-sentence review for each.
Parent tip: Public libraries in Australia and New Zealand are free to join and often run holiday reading programs.
