Good to know about NT school holidays

  • NT government schools follow a territory-wide calendar set in multi-year blocks.
  • Some remote schools run flexible school years with different dates; check with your school.
  • Public holidays that fall during term (such as Anzac Day or a King's Birthday holiday) are days off school but are not counted as school holidays.

NT school holidays: common questions

Do Catholic and independent schools in NT have the same holidays?

Not always. The dates on this page are for Northern Territory government schools. Many Catholic and independent schools follow similar dates but can start or finish a few days earlier or later, so check your school's own calendar.

What are student-free or staff development days?

These are days when teachers work but students stay home, often at the start of a term. They are set statewide or by individual schools. Where the NT Department of Education publishes them, we list them in the notes under each calendar.

How do I add NT school holidays to my phone calendar?

Use the “Add to my calendar” button under a year's table. It downloads a standard .ics file that works with Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook.

How do you make sure the dates are right?

Every date is checked by a person against the official NT Department of Education page before it appears here, and we show the source and the date it was last checked. Read how we check dates.
