How we check school holiday dates

Parents plan work, travel and childcare around school holidays, so accuracy matters more than anything else on this site.

Our rules

  1. Official sources only. Every date comes from the education department or ministry that sets it. We don't copy dates from other websites.
  2. Checked by a person. Before any date appears, someone compares it with the official page and records when they checked it. Each calendar shows its source, status and “last checked” date.
  3. No guessing. If a year hasn't been officially published, or we haven't finished checking it, we say so and link to the official calendar instead of estimating.
  4. Holidays come from term dates. We calculate each holiday as the days between the end of one term and the start of the next, so the two can never disagree.
  5. We say what the dates cover. Dates are for government (state) schools. Catholic, independent and some individual schools set their own dates, and New Zealand schools can choose their exact Term 1 start and Term 4 finish within a range.

What the statuses mean

  • Confirmed — published by the official authority and checked by us.
  • Provisional — published by the authority but marked by them as subject to change.
  • Being verified / not yet published — no dates shown yet.

Education departments occasionally change dates. If something looks different from your school's calendar, your school's dates always take priority — and please let your local Success Tutoring centre know so we can re-check our source.
